About the JSON Minifier converter
Minifying JSON removes the indentation and line breaks that exist purely for humans. The data is identical; the file is smaller.
The document is parsed and re-serialised rather than stripped with a regular expression, so whitespace inside string values is left alone and invalid input is rejected instead of corrupted.
How much does it save?
Typically 15–30% of the raw byte count, depending on nesting depth. Over HTTP with gzip or brotli enabled the real-world saving is much smaller, because compression handles repeated whitespace very well.
Minify for embedded payloads, data URLs and size-limited fields. For an API response, enabling compression matters far more.
Frequently asked questions
Does minifying change my data?
No. Key order and every value are preserved exactly. Only whitespace between tokens is removed.
Can I get the formatting back?
Yes — the JSON Formatter reverses it. The original indentation is not recoverable, but valid JSON has no meaningful whitespace to lose.
